With great sorrow, we bid farewell to Dr. Hubert Kollmannsberger, who passed away on October 28, 2025.

For many years, Dr. Kollmannsberger was a constant presence in Weihenstephan. After completing his studies in food technology, he remained closely associated with the university and, from 2012 onward, worked in the chromatographic laboratory of the Chair of Brewing and Beverage Technology. His particular interest lay in gas chromatographic analysis, which he pursued with remarkable dedication and precision.

He supervised numerous students and supported many doctoral candidates in their research projects, especially in the identification of key aroma compounds. With patience and genuine curiosity, he took part in every GC-O sniffing session and shared his knowledge of sensory science and aromas with great enthusiasm.

One of my first lectures was taught by Hubert, on the topic of aromas and spices. Having just arrived from the Saarland, I initially found it difficult to follow him . However, his consistently friendly Bavarian manner and his enthusiasm for the subject helped to bridge the language barrier. Over the course of my own research in the field of aromas and GC analysis, he provided me with advice and support and helped foster an interest in this area that continues to this day.

We will remember Dr. Hubert Kollmannsberger as a dedicated researcher, a valued colleague, and a warm-hearted lecturer.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

The burial and memorial service took place on December 5, 2025, in Volkmannsdorf.
